Pump power for thick syrup

Thick syrup is about 29 % heavier than water: the hydraulic power for 5 m³/h and 20 m is about 0.35 kW, but because of the low efficiency of pumps for viscous liquids the motor is taken with a reserve.

Frequently asked questions

Should efficiency be reduced for viscous liquids?
Yes: for syrups and oils the efficiency of a centrifugal pump is lower, so take 40–50 % or use a positive-displacement pump.

The calculations are approximate: they help to assess the process and compare options, but do not replace a process design and trials on a specific raw material. This section is for reference only and contains no commercial offers.
