Pipe diameter for juice: 5 m³/h

Juice flows slower than water so as not to foam or tear the fine pulp: we take about 1.2 m/s. For 5 m³/h an inner diameter of about 38 mm is needed, and the nearest standard food pipe DIN 11850 is DN50.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the velocity lower for juice?
High velocity increases foam and shear and harms quality; for thick products the velocity is even lower.

The calculations are approximate: they help to assess the process and compare options, but do not replace a process design and trials on a specific raw material. This section is for reference only and contains no commercial offers.
